Located in a public park in the heart of a residential neighborhood, this is a cool little skate spot. None of the design or construction issues that plague the concrete parks of Northern Illinois are evident here. Smooth concrete, good coping and thoughtful design are abundant throughout the bowls. The bowl layout itself is a little difficult to get a handle on, offering a more technical terrain that once mastered, will help you prepare for just about any transitions you would encounter elsewhere. The street section (if you could call it a section) is much less desirable. A few flat bars and a wedgy box-type thingy are squeezed in around deck of the bowls. Unlike Bay City which uses it's location on a hill to it's advantage, the Mason park has basically no flow from one street object to the next. They do have a cool little wall-ride part though, with a simulated shallow-end pool wall complete with little round stairs. All in all a great park for the locals, worth hitting if you're within area at all. Street junkies be forewarned- you're not going to be in heaven here but you just might learn some new tranny skills. |
